I think I saw a proper use of frames once, but I may have been dreaming. The only techie thingy on the web more abused than frames is cookies -- but at least with cookies, you can say 'no'.

I cannot say I HATE frames, because I have seen the occasional site that benefits from their use. For the most part, however, I think they are overused by folks who just think they need the "latest" whatever-it-is for their sites. There is nothing more irritating than getting stuck in frames within frames within frames! I try to keep my site as "user friendly" as possible.

I have rarely, if ever, seen a page that used frames that wouldn't look better (or load with fewer problems) without them. Frames are for the technology-crazed, for those willing to use any html trick simply to say "look at what I can do!" Frames can work, used sparingly and with good cause. But I can't stand frames for their own sake or websites that use them just because they think, wrongly, that it "looks cool".

Ahhhhh! They're worse than those sites that are optimized for 640x480! It's even worse when those damned corporate websites, in their infinite (non)wisdom, combine the two. And thus create a hideous, tiny, useless, framed site that only lets you use 1% of the screen for usefull things. And the fact that they don't let the site free-flow, but instead FORCE it to 640x480, that lets down people that have video cards with more than 256k of memory. Not to mention those goddamned little 12-14-year-old kiddies that have less brains than a dead hamster. Their sites always seem to have 1 meg of images, 400 different frames, and 1 link that works. And since they don't know what they're doing (real men code HTML by hand, not Netscape gold or MS frontpage) that 1 link ALWAYS comes up in that one main frame rather than cleansing the view of the browser of those damned-stupid "nav" bars that simply link to more juvinile stupidity.

I think frames suck pretty hard, but there are one or two sites that actually use them properly. More specifically, there are exactly two sites on the whole web with good frame use. www.disappear.com, and www.visi.com/~drozone/Bookmarks.html

The disappear site is cool because you don't even realize that frames are in use. You'd have to look at the HTML to realize it. And the second one is simple use of frames by the best web designer out there, Doc Ozone.

But other than these two sites, frames suck the goat ass. When my website goes up, I'll be sure to grab one of your buttons.

Well, I think that they are just a huge waste of time. I mean, the pages comes down much faster without frames!
But on my swedish page ( may not anyone ever speak about it again) I was forced to use frames by my friends. UUUUUCCCH!

But on my english page, and on my Earthworm Jim page, I have fortunately kept te good spirit going. They are totally frames-free!
