I hate frames for the same reason everyone else does. In fact, I have a webring in which several of the members use frames. This causes everyone who checks out the ring to be locked into the past sites frames.

Anyone found a way to bypass or "unlock" the frames? I keep thinking of the song "Please Release and Let Me Go"!!!

Well, HATE is a pretty strong word. Obviously I hate anything that would crash my browser, waste my time or screen space, or otherwise impede my surfing. I'd have to say that IDIOTS who put HUGE pics and animations all over their sites to slow down my modem are a lot more annoying than most frame users are. (Ever heard of THUMBNAILS?) I did check out The Onion, and, on my monitor the frames weren't quite as obtrusive as on SOME SITES, where fully half the screen is occupied with the same icons and links that are available at the top or bottom of the "main" screen anyway! I did try switching over to 640x480 res to see what other people might be seeing, and the ads and menus did clutter the screen, leaving only a small corner to view the actual page in. Personally, though I feel sorry for anyone whose monitor is low-res enough to actually see between the scan lines! For these poor souls, just using a font larger than 10 points is enough to send them scrolling up and down like mad to find the info they need.
Ironically, I found this page while attempting a search for instructions on how to put frames on my OWN homepage. I never realized just what all the pros and cons are, although I have had a few bad experiences trying to set bookmarks or just trying to LEAVE someones hopelessly framebound page! After visiting this page and the I Like Frames page, I have decided that I MAY include a very small frame navigation bar at the top of my page, but only for those who want to use it, and only if I can have it automatically disappear when a visitor leaves. The frame would be no more than 10-15 pixels high, and made to fit within the width of a low-res monitor, containing only the vital icons necessary to navigate quickly thru my site. I don't know if all this is possible, but I have seen a few good examples of tastefully used frames that don't look like frames, don't clutter the screen, and most importantly, don't follow you anywhere.
What do you think, is there such a thing as a GOOD FRAME? Or is it kind of like a good hemorrhoid?

Frames are stupid. They take up too much space, so you're constantly scrolling back and forth just to see what the person even put on their page. And when you want to go to one of their links, their stupid frame tags along with you everywhere you go! It's annoying! I don't want to see their frame, especially when I'm on somebody else's page! Not only is it degrading to their page, but also to others, who's page suffers because of the person who decided to put frames on their page.

Different frames in a page take different times to load. Why can't the wholepage just flash out a one go?
And sometimes these stupid frames block off part of the frame's text causing you to scroll sideways to get a look. Just one full anti-frame page, and you can see everything!

i used to have frames on my site, but i still wonder why i tried to do it in the first place. i was never a fan; i just wanted my page to look "sophisticated." it was a nightmare for me to update, and i didn't want to treat my visitors to longer download times and being stuck in frames when they go on to other sites. so i scrapped the frames, and now i think my site looks so much more sophisticated.
